Anita Kozan
Anita L. Kozan, Ph.D., CCC is a speech and language pathologist whose doctoral work focused on care of the voice, including voice care for singers and actors. She works at Arlington High School in St. Paul, Minnesota with students in the Voice, Speech and Language Studio. Her private practice, the Kozan Clinic for Voice, Speech and Spirit, LLC, focuses on provision of voice and speech services for people who have good voices and want to make them better. This includes singers, actors, and other professional voice users. She is a specialist in the development of the voice for persons who are transgendered. She works with both male-to-female and female-to-male transsexuals, before, during or after their transition.
Dr. Kozan has lectured for local, state, national, and international audiences. She has served as President of the Minnesota Speech-Language-Hearing Association and has been honored by the Association for her outstanding contributions to her field. She opened the first voice laboratory in Minnesota in 1987, when she began examining patients’ vocal folds using videostroboscopy. She has produced a video in which she examines the vocal folds of nationally known ventriloquist James Wedgewood, while he performs various character voices. Dr. Kozan’s chapter on the singing voice in Voice and Communication Therapy for the Transgender/Transsexual Client: A Comprehensive Clinical Guide has been recognized as the first of its kind. Her special interests in addition to care of the voice include the role of spirituality as a clinical tool in working with voice, speech, and language disorders.
